Michael Shields graduated from the American College of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine in Houston, Texas, a fully-accredited program under the Texas Board of Higher Education, with a Master's degree in Oriental Medicine. He is currently completing a 2nd M. Sc. in Human Nutrition. This program specializes in understanding and researching natural, safe approaches for human body maintenance and healing. Michael is also a state licensed RMT and utilizes advanced massage modalities (including orthopedic and pain-free deep tissue work) to reduce body pain and improve joint movement / function. Michael graduated from Maine Maritime Academy with a B. Sc. degree in marine systems engineering, a five-year engineering design program, and worked for a few years in the oil industry before teaching math and science at the high school level while attending college for acupuncture and herbal medicine.
Michael became interested in acupuncture and herbal medicine after having his asthma and allergy symptoms eliminated with acupuncture and herbal medicine. Not everyone will receive as much benefit in this regard, but it is a safe alternative while under medical supervision.
Michael's interests include enhancing general wellness, reducing pain and improving joint function, lessening a person's dependence on chronic medication usage and continuously learning and improving in the fields of acupuncture, nutrition science and advanced massage modalities.
