Weight Loss Questions

Can you tell me about your weight loss program?
Our weight loss program is medically supervised. Our doctor is board certified in internal medicine. We provide diet and exercise counseling. Our program is unique in that we have acupuncture, herbal medicine and prescription medications. Prior to treatment, a review of your history and medical conditions are reviewed, as we stress safety in our program.

What type of prescriptions is available?
There are two categories of prescription medications available:

  • Appetite suppressant, examples are adipex (phentermine), meridia (sibutramine) and tenuate (phenylpropamine).
  • Fat blocker (xenical)

Do you give vitamins or water pills?
Water pills such as lasix (furosemide) are available and are only suggested for short term use. We also have vitamin b12 and recommend multivitamins.

How much weight will I lose?
The amount of weight you lose varies from person to person. This is hard to say. In general, we strive for a minimum of 10% of your weight to be loss over 6 months. To lose weight safely, you should look for a weight loss of 1-2 pounds per week.

Have you seen success with your previous patients?
Yes, we have patients that are very happy with the weight that they have loss.

Can I bill my insurance for weight loss?
Generally, weight loss management is not reimbursed by insurance. Our physician is a family physician and can see you for a variety of medical conditions. If you’d like to see him for such a condition, he can and will manage your weight condition as well.
